Edible Insights

When it comes to vegetables, osmosis is your enemy. If we want to get healthy, we must stop and take a good look at what and how we are eating. The quality of our food plays a large part in determining the extent of our health. Along with our daily exercise and activities we should really start preparing our meals with more thought. One such example includes purchasing fresh vegetables instead of frozen. I know it may seem convenient and cheaper at times, however, as fresh vegetables tend to have more flavor it seems like one is getting a raw deal when purchasing frozen veggies. Mostly, when you cook your frozen vegetables, you end up boiling or steaming them. Why is this so bad? Well, both boiling and steaming your vege removes all of those wonderful vitamins and minerals you purchased the vegetables for in the first place, leaving you with little more than soggy plant matter devoid of it's nutrients. The process of cooking vegetables in water allows for reverse osmosis to occur during which nutrients are leeched out into the surrounding liquid. This prevents one from gaining any benefit, as the water used is generally drained away. A better way to cook your vege as well as preserving the nutritional value is to roast them. Making a delicious soup is another good method of ensuring a benefit from nature's bounty. A nice, hearty homemade chicken noodle soup made with carrots, celery, onions and mushrooms is a wonderful way of making a multi-vege meal, whilst including their nutrients in a tasty broth.

Be creative and express YOU!

I have a strong belief in handmade things! I believe that everyone has the ability to be creative. Although, many have lost their own sense of creativity due to....well, many things, but from what I can see, it's mostly due to the lack of honest self expression through different mediums. So get out there and try something new today. Maybe even start with something as small as listening to some new music, let that help aid you in getting those creative juices flowin'. Just remember that everything starts with you! Nobody else can push you to self expression more than... YOU! Just have a good time, don't force it, just let it flow...

"It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things."
